The Brief

The family had a beautiful home — great bones, generous rooms, quality finishes — but it didn't yet feel like theirs. The spaces were furnished but not styled. Comfortable but not cohesive. They wanted warmth, character, and a sense that every room had been thought through.

The goal was not to redecorate from scratch, but to layer in the elements that transform a house into a home: the right art, the right textiles, the right arrangement of pieces that already existed alongside carefully chosen additions.

The style direction was clear from our first conversation — warm, transitional, livable. Nothing trendy. Nothing that would feel dated in three years. Spaces that would grow with the family and feel better with time.

The Design Decisions

The Accent Wall

The living room needed an anchor. A full-height board-and-batten wall in a deep warm taupe gave the space the architectural weight it was missing — framing the fireplace and creating a backdrop that made every piece of furniture feel intentional.

The Seating Plan

Two tufted Chesterfield club chairs flanking the fireplace, with a large tufted sofa creating a generous U-shape. The goal was conversation — a room that invites people to settle in, not just pass through.

The Entry Statement

Wide-plank white oak floors, a crystal-and-brass chandelier, and an arched transom door with decorative glass panels. The foyer sets the tone for the entire home — it needed to feel grand but warm, not cold or formal.

The Details

A blanket ladder, stacked books, a pillar candle, dried eucalyptus hung from iron hooks against the board-and-batten wall. These are the moments that make a house feel like someone actually lives there — and loves it.

The Result

A home that finally felt finished — not in the sterile, don't-touch sense, but in the way that makes you exhale when you walk through the door. Every room had a clear point of view. Every surface told a small story.

The board-and-batten accent wall became the family's favorite feature. The foyer — once just a passthrough — became the first impression the house deserved. The styling details throughout gave the home a sense of care and personality that no amount of furniture alone can achieve.

This project is where Driftwood Studio's approach was first fully realized: warm, layered, timeless — and above all, genuinely livable.
